Eloise Laws:
Biography
Ms. Laws‘ distinctive vocal stylings can be heard on several Capital, Liberty and ABC recordings. These recordings have been produced by such luminaries as Ronnie Laws, Holland-Dozier-Holland, Linda Creed and Andre Fisher ( Secrets ). Never one to rest on her laurels, she continues to perform at several music festivals, including, the Playboy Jazz Festival, the Long Beach Jazz Festival and the Drew Music Festival, among many others. Additionally, she has been selected as the winner of the prestigious Cherry Blossom Award from the Tokyo Music Festival.
Ms. Laws is an original lead cast member and co-writer of the highly successful Tony-nominated play It Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues , which had its world premiere at the Denver Center Theatre Company. On Broadway, it opened with great bravado at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theatre, garnering four Tony nominations, and Ms. Laws received a Drama Desk nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. She was also honored with a coveted Helen Hayes nomination for her performance at the Kennedy Center.
She continues receiving critical acclaim with the Blues since its successful run at the Geffen Theatre in Los Angeles two years ago.
Her other theatre credits underscore her exceptional versatility. They include Bloody Mary in South Pacific, Madame Tango in House of Flowers and multiple roles in Candide , among others. Most recently, she performed at the Denver Center Theatre Company’s world premiere production of Nat King Cole : A Musical Healing. A Denver Post reviewer describes Ms. Laws as: "A rare and ethereal presence . . . possessed of a voice that could move chimes on a windless night."
Ms. Laws also stars in BetRunner , an independent festival film directed by Vincent Spano, releasing later this year.
Although she continues to tour cross-country with It Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues , Eloise concurrently performs in concert tours throughout the country promoting Secrets , where she is often accompanied by brothers Hubert and Ronnie Laws.
Eloise Laws not only successfully commands her audience–performing in theatre, film, television, or at one of her many concerts-she mesmerizes them. With her current CD ‘Secrets’ (Rikki Records/Scepterstein Records), she reaffirms her legendary status with an exemplary follow up to The Key (Scepterstein Records ). Eloise feels Secrets represents her most creative work to date, and she enjoys sharing selections from her new CD with live audiences throughout the country.
Eloise Laws New CD:
"SECRETS"
A few weeks ago I posted this review on the Soul-Patrol Digest…
"Slip THE NEW CD FROM THE LEGENDARY ELOISE LAWS CALLED ‘SECRETS’, in your CD player on a mellow Saturday night right after your favorite Barry White disc. This veteran singer from the legendary LAWS family (Ronnie, Hubert, Eloise & Debra) has been delighting us for many years. It should be interesting to see if it gets the airplay it deserves in an era where the face of Jazz vocals is increasingly dominated by a whole generation of wannabees."
But don’t take my word for it….take a listen to a special Eloise Laws/Secrets broadcast via Soul-Patrol.Net Radio, featuring the songs: "Sometimes" and the funky/vocaleese ode to the Late Lee Morgan "I Got My Baby", and decide for yourself!
