RIP – Monette Sundler

she was not a “big name” but people in the jazz community knew her specialness and talent…

Beautiful thoughts below, from our friend Randall Grass on the late Monette Sudler.
I only knew Monette Sudler slightly, and only because I was a huge fan of her as an artist. I saw her perform several times and each time I purchased one of her CD’s. I also greatly respected the fact that she had constructed & managed her own website. Glad he was able to attend and represent!! (Bob Davis)

Notes from the Memorial Service of Monette Sudler

By Randall Grass

It was a beautiful memorial service for Monette Sudler today…moving tributes wonderful music by musicians and singers who knew her…if the measure of a life well-lived is the number of people whose life you touch then Monette lived a great life …the church was packed..and it was not simply as a musical artist that she touched people but as the testimonies showed it was also as a person…she was a bright open spirit…but of course she did touch many and make a mark through music…she was not a “big name” but people in the jazz community knew her specialness and talent….and she mentored many young musicians as well as brought beauty to the many who heard her especially in Philadelphia…in my work I often hear from talented musicians who have not gotten the recognition and success they hoped for and felt they deserved…I often tell them it is not necessarily the number of people you impact but the important thing is the depth and meaningfulness of those you impact…you can be a “local legend” and transform lives…Monette certainly did that…her musical artistry will live on from the handful of albums she released and some video that exist but more importantly in the hearts and minds of all who were touched by hearing her
