SOUL-PATROL: BEST DOO WOP CD RELEASE OF 2002: ‘VOCAL MAGIC OF THE HARPTONES’

To be honest with you, I don’t even know if this CD was actually released in 2002.
It doesn’t really matter, now does it?

Just about a year ago as a few of you might recall, I attended a Doo Wop concert in
Plainfield, NJ. My review of that show is up on the web at:
http://www.soul-patrol.com/soul/doowop_rev.htm

Backstage at the show I met one Mr. Raoul Cita, business manager/piano player/composer/arranger/vocal coach of the Harptones (and Black music legend).
I shook his hand and told him what a pleasure and an honor it was to meet him in person.

He said to me…
“Young man, I hear that you like doo wop music…”

And with that, he handed me his business card.
I still have his card and it says…
“THE BEST IN LIVE ENTERTAINMENT, ROCK N’ ROLL AND POPULAR MUSIC”

And he also handed me the CD entitled “The Vocal Magic of The Harptones”
The CD doesn’t have any dates on it, but it’s cover features a current picture of the
Harptones.
So as far as I’m concerned it’s a 2002 release 🙂

As I listen to this CD I am amazed at the similarities between the Harptones and the Moments.
I wonder if there is any formal or informal connection?
Next time I speak with Al Goodman (of Ray, Goodman and Brown) I will ask him.

This is a wonderful collection of great love songs, about half of them written by Mr. Raoul Cita.

For example…
Life Is But a Dream, Sunday Kind of Love, That’s The Way It Goes and On a Sunday Afternoon are three songs which rank as the some of the best ever Doo Wop songs and they sound great on this CD.

You can order this CD DIRECTLY from Mr. Raoul Cita and the Harptones from their official website at the following link!

Of course that Doo Wop concert wasn’t the first time that I had met the Harptones.
As some of you may recall I had met them at the 2001 R&B Foundation Pioneer Awards, where I had observed first hand their mistreatment by the incompetent people in the ticket office at the Apollo Theatre.
My only hope is that those individuals are now unemployed…

Anyhow, congratulations to the Harptones, their lead singer Mr. Willie Wingfield, group members William James, Vickie Burgess, Marlowe Murray and the great Raoul J. Cita, for putting out SOUL-PATROL’S BEST DOO WOP CD OF 2002

“THE BEST IN LIVE ENTERTAINMENT, ROCK N’ ROLL AND POPULAR MUSIC”

take that to the bank!
